Train Your Brain to Be More Focused
So, it's already halfway through the year, and doesn't it feel like it just started?
The world is noisier than ever, more traumatic than we could have ever imagined. If you're still getting up and going to work, still managing to keep going, then celebrate that right now.
You've made it this far when so many haven't. You're already a success to everyone else!
If you're stressing about maintaining your focus, don't be hard on yourself—there's been a lot going on.
Our creative minds love to chase ideas and attempt everything at once, making it impossible to calm our racing thoughts and focus.
But multitasking on different projects costs you time and focus!
If you've got five different projects on the go, switching between them can lose you 80% productivity, meaning you're not getting anything done.
(A bit like my house renovation—too many different things started, nothing getting finished!)
When I worked for someone else, priorities, strategies, and timelines were set by the business.
Now, of course, we are the business and in charge of deciding what gets done and when.
The easiest way to get focused is to be clear about what you have to do.
If you leave it vague, it's easy to get sidetracked. But if you plan every detail, you'll never get started.
Getting into the habit of focusing is going to help you maintain it.
Routinely scheduling what you need to do on specific dates and sticking to them will help you be more focused. You'll start completing projects that will make your business more money.
Of course, saying it and doing it are two very different things!
Here are some tried and tested ways to train your brain to be more focused so you can get more done:
Get clear on what you're working towards - A strong, compelling vision of the future is your why.
Create simple plans that can flex - Plans should adapt as you move along the path, with plenty of decision points for revisions.
Establish a planning routine and stick to it for six weeks - Commit until it becomes a habit. Habits become automatic, and it can make you uncomfortable when you don't follow through.
Design your ideal week based on how you work best - If you love working early in the morning, plan around that—it's your schedule.
Block out time for marketing and business projects - You don't have to specify the task now; just commit time to work on your business, not just in it.
Each week, schedule tasks for your blocked time - If you’re spending two hours a week on marketing, this could be creating content, sales pages, sending emails—whatever is on your priority list to move you forward.
The path to better focus is paved with habits and routines. It's not always easy to get started (as anyone who's tried to start exercising or losing weight will know!), but it's worth it.
