BLOG
Back in February, I scribbled something in a notebook and promptly forgot about it. Classic me.
But a couple of months later, while hunting for a clean page, I stumbled across it again—and it stopped me in my tracks.
“I will focus on one thing every week, just like my house. As long as I’m taking a step forward every week and on a Sunday I can say that I completed something. And anything else that gets done is a ‘Brucie Bonus.’”
I grinned when I read it. Not just because of the nostalgic Brucie reference (if you know, you know 🎯), but because I’ve actually done it.
Every week, I’ve picked one thing to move my business forward. Not ten. Not all the things. Just one.
And it’s worked.
My website is live. I've created space in my week to focus. I've found amazing people to support me. There’s still loads on the list (always is), but for the first time in a long time, I feel like I’m moving forward with intention, not chaos.
Now, I’m not new to this. I’ve spent decades helping businesses get clear, create systems, and make progress where others got stuck. I’ve managed complex projects, rescued failing ones, and helped people figure out what they need to do—and in what order—so they can actually get it done.
But building your own business? That’s a different kind of beast.
Especially when you’re trying to do it on your own terms. With purpose. With integrity. Without burning out (again).
So this “one step at a time” thing? It’s not because I don’t know how to plan. It’s because I do—and I know what happens when you try to do it all at once. You freeze. You flail. Or you fry.
This is my antidote to overwhelm. My way of putting my own tools into practice. And honestly? It feels bloody brilliant.
Because when you try to do everything at once, you end up doing… very little. Or burning out. Or spending an entire day rearranging your to-do list and calling it “planning.”
(We’ve all been there.)
But one thing a week? That’s manageable. And if you happen to sneak in a few extra wins, well, that’s your Brucie Bonus 💥
This isn’t about getting everything done. It’s about getting something done. Something that matters. Something that moves the needle. Something that, on a Sunday evening, makes you go, “Yep. I did that.”
And those wins add up. They build confidence. They quiet the imposter syndrome voices (at least for a bit). And they remind you that you’re not stuck—you’re moving.
If you’re overwhelmed and trying to do too much, try this instead:
🔹 Pick one thing this week.
🔹 Make it the priority.
🔹 Everything else? That’s a Brucie Bonus.
And if you’re feeling brave, tell me what your “one thing” is this week—I’ll cheer you on.
Let’s keep it simple. Let’s keep moving. One step at a time.
Cheers,
